Have the children decided that they want to learn to play piano? You don’t want to spend much money, and then you get offered a FREE piano!
Sad to say, there’s no such thing. You will most likely find adverts for:
“Piano free to good home”
“Piano to take away”
“Perfect for a Starter”
Does it sound to good to be true? It usually is.
Firstly, you’ll have to pay for TRANSPORT, and if you get a piano professionally moved, this will be anything from £100 upwards. People often try to move pianos themselves, this is not a good idea. Pianos are extremely heavy instruments, and if you try and move one yourself, it is very easy to damage both the piano, and the people involved.
Secondly, any piano will need TUNING when it’s been moved. This will cost at least £50.
When you have your ‘Free’ piano in situ, the tuner comes along and informs you that it “Needs a lot of work”. This is when the costs can spiral.
Sadly, you then find out, that your ‘free’ piano needs more money spending on it than it’s actually worth. To top it off, you then need to pay to DISPOSE of the piano.
You then find yourself back at square one …
